I think I have written this here already, but it is never too much to repeat it: I am Sligo number one fan… Ok… I might not be, but surely I am on the top 10 list. Since the moment I first came to Sligo, I got amazed by its colours, shades, places… The Sligonians made me feel home from minute one.
But there is always the other side of the coin. And one of my favourites is Sligo airport. One small runway and a tiny little building that would be more suitable for a local aerodrome or airfield, has the pompous name of airport. Reportedly, the runway is so short that the some flights cannot have full load or the will not be able to take off. There are no gift shops or any other shop. There is Just a small bar who apparently is also the headquarters of the Sligo Aeroclub. Don’t misunderstand me. I am a strong defender of the airport. It makes Dublin to be just 30 minutes away and it is very handy if you have to travel from Dublin airport. I am actually upset with the cancelation of Aer Arann flights from Sligo and hoping that everyone that work on Sligo airport keep their job with such change.
The person that describes the best the Sligo airport is Ian Coppinger.
I know that this is just a Pub with no beer, but some nice stand up comedy, brightens up any pub.

What about the plane that missed the runaway and ended up in the sea!

I think it was a Euroceltic plane, and Aslan, the Dublin band were on board. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sligo_Airport#Accidents_and_incidents
